Tracklog 11/08/2018 Trenches

This morning we started driving south on the “Voie Sacrée” towards Bar-le-Duc.

In the afternoon we explored three sites to have a look at the remains of the trenches.  It is really amazing how many remain after more than 100 years.

It is a strange experience walking in the woods around Verdun, completely alone and in absolute silence.

After the trenches we went to the German cemetary of St. Mihiel,  6046 german soldiers are burried there.

Late afternoon, we way drove to the Butte de Montsec, an American monument on top of a hill, wich reminds of the Mardasson monument in Bastogne, but the view is much more spectacular.

The only two people we encountered today at the trenches were Italian so we decided to visit an Italian restaurant this evening.
